What do my ketone levels mean?

Measuring your blood ketone levels is very helpful but knowing what your ketone levels mean is crucial especially if you are trying to achieve a specific state of ketosis or even trying to manage any health complications.

Light nutritional ketosis is achieved anywhere from 0.5 to 1.5 mmol/L, which is beneficial although not to the degree of full nutritional ketosis.

The most optimal level of ketosis for weight loss is 1.5 to 3.0 mmol/L, which is when your body can use stored fat for energy most effectively.

For those who are diabetic, if your ketone level is more than 3.0 mmol/L, you must seek immediate emergency treatment as you may be at risk for diabetic ketoacidosis. Please consult your medical professional to find a diet plan that works best for you.
